my new favorite quote

I HAD to post this after I found it!

"Poetry is the shadow cast by our streetlight imaginations..."

Enough said.

remember - a poem by Jocelyn Carol

This poem just came to me, so I had to write it down. It showcases a girl who's ready to commit suicide, and God stops her in the nick of time.
Remember…

Before the jump and before the fall,
Before you risk losing it all,
Remember all the times that passed,
Lost in the wind and faded away

The shadowed memories that were once gay,
The morning dew that began each new day,
The smiling faces of your friends, so dear
Would you take it all and fling it away?

The voices whispering in your head,
Would you listen to what they said?
Would you want to end it all,
Thinking your life was worth nothing and fall,
Fall into the fiery abyss,
You couldn’t end your life like this

As you draw your final breath,
And take a step closer to the edge
A sharp pain sears through your soul,
Making you jump back and clutch your throat

A steady hand in your stomach calms you some
And you step forward again ready to jump,
When a still, small voice sounds inside;
Your eyes well with tears and you begin to cry:

“Remember the plans I have for you,
Plans to help you, not to harm you,
I gave you a life and a purpose and more,
You needn’t throw it away from feeling remorse.
I love you child, I call you my own,
Come back to me, I’ll heal your heart of stone.”

You stepped back and collapsed into tears,
Praising the Lord and leaving your fears
The purpose of your life is all too great,
Remember that before it’s too late.

I felt like I had to post this because there are so many people who don't know that God loves them and wants them to live the life he's called them to live. I hope you like the poem! :)

books i aspire to read in 2011

I love to read. If I don't read, I'll die. It's as simple as that. I mean, what would the world be without books? Without the imagination of the C.S. Lewises or the Ted Dekkers of the world, where would we be now? What would we believe in? There are so many locked doors in the world that can be opened, if we just find the key. Sometimes that key is our imagination.
I remember the first big book I read was "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", and after falling in love at age seven, I read the entire series by age nine. I ventured then to read the "Nancy Drew Series" by Carolyn Keene, and since then I've been exposed to several great authors. The thing is with me, when I pick up a book I can't put it down, therefore the point to me is, to finish it! My best friend introduced me to the great works of Janette Oke, and just last year I finished her book, "A Gown of Spanish Lace".
My mom and I love to read together, and we took to reading the classics, like the "Red Fairy Book" and the "Blue Fairy Book", and whenever we sit down to read, we fall in love with the book, even if we're not reading it for the first time.

So, before I list some of the many books I'll read in 2011, I want to spotlight some amazing books I read in 2010:

1. A Gown of Spanish Lace by Janette Oke
2. The Eye of the Oracle by Bryan Davis
3. Starlighter Bryan Davis
4. Blink by Ted Dekker
5. The Shakespeare Stealer by Gary Blackwood
6. Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer
7. Isabel, Jewel of Castilla by Carolyn Meyer
8. Doomed Queen Anne by Carolyn Meyer
9. Beware, Princess Elizabeth by Carolyn Meyer
10. Betsey and the Emperor by Staton Rabin
11. The Good Master by Kate Seredy
12. The Singing Tree by Kate Seredy
13. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
14. Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken
15.  A Murder for Her Majesty by Beth Hilgartner
16. Hangman's Curse by Frank Peretti
17. Immanuel's Veins by Ted Dekker
This year I will read (hopefully):

1. The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker
2. The Circle Series: Black, Red, White, Green by Ted Dekker
3. House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti
4. The Priest's Graveyard by Ted Dekker
5. Skin by Ted Dekker (Okay, I'm going to read and re-read every book by Ted Dekker. There)
6. Echoes from the Edge Trilogy by Bryan Davis
7. Dragons In Our Midst Series: Raising Dragons, The Candlestone, Circles of Seven, Tears of  A Dragon by Bryan Davis
8. Re-read/Finish Carolyn Keene's "Nancy Drew" Series (because I can't list every single book of hers in this blog post)
And the list will get longer as the year goes on.

I also want to finish my novel that I'm currently writing, "14", by the end of 2011, so I can FINALLY get it published. For several of my friends who are asking it's a Adventure/Mystery/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Drama/Crime/Thriller/Romance-ish book. Yes, I know that's a long list of genre's but that's just how I am. I might start a new book called "Legion", or "Deathly Luxuries" or something like that, but we'll see since I need a some more ideas for that.

P.S. Thank you to Bleah Briann of ~With Love and Kisses~ for inspiring me to do this!

"raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..."

"....bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things..." :)
I'm a lover of tea. I can't live without it. My mom and I often sit down in the living room and watch "Road to Avonlea" and "Anne of Green Gables" re-runs, and we always drink tea when we watch it. And it's partly because my mom's not a night person (kinda like Clair Huxtable), and I am, so after 8pm she needs something to calm her down. For my last birthday (which was in December) she gave me some Apple Cinnamon tea from the Boston Tea Company
I also received a gorgeous china cup at a ladies's meeting at my church, and it's now my favorite mug to drink out of:
"...when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad..."

i couldn't have said it better...

I was relaxing on the couch when out of the blue this quote came to me:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?'
Actually, who are you not to be?
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."
     -Marianne Williams
After reading this, I immediately thought of Julie Andrews. Maybe it's because she's been coming into my mind lately, and she's become one of my inspirations.

She's truly lived up to God's call on her life, and she hasn't quit. Not only is she beautiful, both outside and in, but she kept going when people said she couldn't.
I aspire to be like her as my life goes on, and to keep going when I feel weary, and to believe when everything seems to come crashing down.

I love you, Julie Andrews!

to fuzzy socks, and beyond!

I've pledged to myself that I'll post atleast once a day, because when I usually start a blog, I'm in love with it for a few days, and then I stop posting. I've done that before. It's not fun. So, I've asked God to help me stay dedicated to this blog. And since I'll be here for awhile, I've decided that I'm going to tell you all the things you should know about me, that I couldn't fit in my profile. (Brace yourself. This is loonngggg)

1. I LOVE socks! Especially fuzzy ones, because They keep me warm, and it's a feeling of comfort, and contentment.

2. I love to dream. Somewhere Over the Rainbow, way up high, lie all my hopes and dreams and the special plan God's created for me. It drives me to be who I am.

3. I have an obsession with crunchy leaves. It makes my day to hear the crumbling sound of what's left of Autumn and Winter under my feet. Yeah...that last sentence sounded weird.

4. Yellow is my favorite color. My bedroom is yellow, and it reminds me of the sunshine that God gives us on each new day. I also love yellow because when the sun sets, it kinda gives off this yellow/orange glow that moves into the skies. Then it does the exact same thing the very next day!! Only our creator could do this :)

5. I'm in LOVE with Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) it's my favorite flower, but ironically, it's a tree. A few years ago before my sister was born I went to Washington D.C., but I left RIGHT before the Cherry Blossom festival. Darn it! But I hope to go back there and make it one day. My mom and I had a funny/painful experience with Cherry Blossoms, and now whenever we go to the store she says "Jocee, is this a Cherry Blossom?" and I'm like, "Nope." and she says, "I tried. I really did."

6. I love beautiful pictures. And lighthouses always kinda give me a sense of hope. Like a calm during the storm. It's hard to describe. If you've seen Thomas Kinkade's gorgeous "Paintings of Light" then you've probably seen that he paints lots of lighthouses. It's something I can't really say in words, but it's engraved in my mind.
7. I have a mad crush on Peter Pevensie/William Moseley. It all started around July of 2005, or whenever the first few Narnia previews came out. (By the way, I'm a Narnia fanatic, so you have to grit your teeth and bear with me.) But when Prince Caspian came out...ohhhmyyygoooddnesss!!!! He'd grown up! And I couldn't really believe it. And even though all my friends say "it's just a phase Jocelyn, get over it," but I don't know. Besides that, he's different. Like you know, the guys in the movies always sweep you off of your feet. And when I grow up, I want my guy to be like Peter. Or the actual one would be nice, too :P. But it's not my decision, it's in God's hands. But I can dream can't I? Haha.

8. I LOVE to read. I'll read anything. I get into my books really easily and I usually finish them within a few days. I read "Scarlett" an 800 page sequel to "Gone With the Wind", and now I'm going to read the first book! My mom and I have pledged that we'll both read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy before we die. We still haven't started. I also love to write, and I'm currently writing a story that I hope will be published soon (I just have to finish it first). I love to write music, poems, songs, and I hope to become a Film Composer and a Writer someday.

And last but most certainly NOT least (because I had to save the best for last and I'm sorry Peter, but you're not my everything) I love God. I have an active relationship with him and I adore him and look to him in all things. No matter what I do his hands are still open to take me in, when I feel wronged, or I've just had a bad day even. You don't have to run to God only when you've done something huge. You can't still run to him if you stole a cookie that was for your sister's birthday. He cares about all the things that you do, and however big, or small they seem, he's always there.

Anywho, I think we've covered the "beyond" part of this post. I actually started this last night so I could get all the basics covered. Whadaya think? I'd love to hear from ya'll! Have a grreattt day!! And don't forget to eat your breakfast. Seriously.

-Jocee
P.S. My sister's chewing food and singing about school. She's young. She still likes it. Luckyyy. By the way, I'm looking into getting a new camera, any suggestions? I don't wanna jump into anything a buy another "Evil Little Troll" (my current camera) Thanks! Byee!

patience has its rewards...

So, I figured something: I've been looking at alot of other people's blogs, and I noticed how they're all so cool! Like, they have the "Snag My Button" and cool designs that people make especially for a blog. Well, I've been looking at getting a blog for a long time (and this is the result) and I've been figuring what I want done to it. Make it look "fancy" and inviting. You know, some decorations here and there, and voila! Then I can post some great new pictures - when I get my new camera of course - and do great things on this blog. But I realized that patience has its rewards, and I have a tendency to see it, and HAVE to have it. Like every blog has its first, and 150th follower, but before it gets to 150, it has to have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. I have to take steps to get to where I wanna go, and once I get there, well...ya'll will see what happens.

“Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience.” -Unknown (to me atleast)

-Jocee

P.S. I'm American. I don't speak English. My little sister is currently scribbling on a piece of paper and singing about dogs and donuts. And eating chips, AND watching Phineas and Ferb. That was random. Okay, I'll go now :P

the meaning of true love - no, not the romantic kind

So one day, I was feeling "down in the dumps" (how old is that phrase, anyway?) and I started to listen to this amazing song by JJ Heller "What Love Really Means". She describes people who feel like they're not enough because of what they've done, and what they've become. Yeah, I've felt like that several times in my life. Well, it just so happens, that when I was listening to that song, I was crying, because I'd experienced some really bad things with my best friend, and I wasn't sure whether or not she'd love me again. So God reminded me at the second JJ sang "I will love you for you", that a friend loves at all times, and that he'll be be with me no matter how down I'm feeling, and that he'll never leave me, and never forsake me. I just started crying harder and praising God because it kinda felt like everything was cleared up at that moment.
That very same day, before I listened to JJ's song, my and my friend were talking and I told them what happened and they gave me a hug and said, "Your heart is getting cold, and although it may be temporary, it can borrow heat from my heart." That made me smile, and I'm not sure if someone already came up with that saying (I don't care either way), but it really did help me get through it.
I explained this to my youth group at church on Sunday, and wow, they really got it! Not much of a verbal response, but they understood what I was saying.
So the meaning of true love (in my opinion): A friend loves at all times, no matter what happens, and no matter how hard life can be. I love my best friend with all my heart. And we're doing much better now, too! :)
So, you know, be a good friend today :)

Introducing Me! (NOT related to the Jonas Brother's song)

Hi! My name is Jocee. Pronounced J-o-see (the o sounds like the o in "ostrich") It's short for Jocelyn, which means "Merry". Not to mention, I'm a night person!

So if you're looking at this blog like "Oh my lip gloss what is this?!" then, I'll tell you. It's a place where I get to be ME. My mom told me to "be who I be", so why not? If you're confused by the title "Cupcake Dictionary", then let me tell you all about it, and how it's kind of an inside joke. You know how on iCarly they wear those t-shirts that are called "Penny Tees" that have extremely pointess words on them? (Assuming you do) For example: "Zesty Roger" "South Frogspit" and others, which escape my memory at the moment. So I thought, "hmm, if I was to ever have a penny tee, I'd put on it, Cupcake Dictionary." And there you have it. And no, this blog won't have random words and pictures about cupcakes and dictionaries. Okay, I might be lying about the cupcakes.
If you're confused about the little description under the title, "The comedy aggie that went neutral", then let me explain. (Besides that I can talk here without getting interrupted, I hope) When I was little I was an EXTREME football fan. Seriously, you have no idea. And my dad just happened to go to Texas A&M, so obviously, he loved the Aggies. Well, up to a certain point I got tired of my dad arguing with his friends about the "Aggies are better than the Longhorns", so I decided to go neutral, and now I don't even care about football. And anyway, shouldn't the college players get paid for being massacred? I think so! And sometimes their coach can be a real fudgewad.
Anywho, on this blog, I'll be posting pictures, and just things about my life, that I hope all y'all will enjoy. (I'm from Texas, by the way) But first, I need a camera, because the one I have now is horrible (the way the French say it) so for now I'll just be getting stuff off the internet. My family is an EXACT replica of the Cosby Show, except we only have three kids instead of five. My dad's Cliff, my mom's Clair, my older brother's Theo (except he has a purpose in life), I'm either Vanessa or Sondra, because Vanessa got weird after turning 15 and I don't wanna be like her. My little sister's Clair/Olivia, because she has my mom's personality, and Olivia's cuteness/persistence. Or something like that anyway...

I hope you like my blog and I hope you'll enjoy my posts in the future!

-Jocee

P.S. I LOVE Narnia. So if I post anything random/stupid about the characters, etc, just tell me. If you like Narnia, I love you. If you don't, then I'm not going to say anything because not everyone's like me and I likes the same things I like. Toodles!
