w. and g. // portraits

warning: this is picture loaded. so i won't try to say as many words as usual.

so w. and g. i babysit these two. a neighbor had called for her neighbor asking if i was free a saturday afternoon, and when i said i was, i was booked to babysit a four year old girl, and a one year old boy for five hours. piece of cake. and i'm not being sarcastic, because i've lived with joy for six years. anyways, from the first day, we three were the best of friends.

i've always wanted to be a mom. i've had the privilege of being parented by a wonderful mommy and daddy, and i've grown to love children. everyone says i just have a knack for kids. i just know what to do with them. i really don't do anything in particular, but everyone says it just clicks. i haven't babysat much before, but with these two, i think i'm doing something right. i've seen the way they get excited when mommy comes home. i've seen them play with their dolls and stickers like they're the greatest things in the world, and they don't have a care for anything else. i've seen them make messes and i've helped them clean up, and i've even taken to telling them they are kind, they are smart, they are important.

with these two, you can't just sit and watch the moments go by. you have to get them down. they're the things you just have to remember, because forgetting is like losing a vital part of yourself. i love the way w. puts his lips to my cheek and says muah! three seconds after he lets go. i love the way g. excitedly stumbles over her words when we're going to the pool or getting ice cream sandwiches. one day, i decided i just couldn't let myself sit by and watch them grow up all too quickly. i had to capture a few moments first, before they were out of my grasp. and since that first time, i haven't stopped.

these are spontaneous. i wasn't paid for them, didn't offer to do them. i just did them. i think spontaneity is one of the best things when it comes to photography. i think the blurs are more personable. more real. signifying that life is all too fleeting, especially with children. anyway, i think i've said enough, so i hope you enjoy, and grow to love this kids as much as i do.

    1. well, i was playing around with my iso and shutter speed and all that, and the blog is doing something to make the photos look a little blotchy. so it looks a little better when i look at them with my folders.

thank you so much for your input, though! i most certainly will keep practicing. :))

    2. hmmm... maybe try shooting in auto for a bit? auto, with no flash, works well. or do 'auto iso'. that works well. really cute shots!
