october promises:
scratchy vinyl sounds against the turntable needle
honeycrisp apples in season
instant warmth after coming indoors from the cold
closed-toe shoes
sniffles
heart-to-heart talks
dog-eared notes to him that are carried everywhere
guilt-free Christmas music
new beginnings
(because for some reason october is a new beginning for me)
it wasn't until today that i realised the importance of taking naps. actually, it wasn't until today that i realised the importance of a lot of things. i'm writing a new book. several, actually. one a memoir and the other a list of things, as well as some other projects that i've decided to pick up again. deadlines are coming in swiftly, research papers are being assigned, cinnamon is being sprinkled over every meal, and i want a kitty cat. incidentally, her name will be tabbey, even though she won't be a tabby cat. and i've decided to never give the barista at coffee shops my real name when i order something. because that way, i can imagine another life in another pair of shoes, even if it lasts until the moment i leave the shop. i don't know. i feel sort of rambly. but that's okay, because i'm content.

ReplyDeleteGirl, I love you. And your writing- and the way it makes me feel winter coming. And that third picture absolutely made me want to go catch the sun in the sky. I looooove your blog.
ReplyDeleteGabby
so i think you should come to my house and get a kitten/cat. because we have 26...
ReplyDeleteAnd also: that last photo = a;ksdhfa;lk dsgj PERFECT.
i never like giving my real name at fast food places either. i'll just make up a name. and an accent. usually it's british. also, my dad never gives his real name...don't ask. once, he went by "flynn" from tangled, and when they had his order ready, it was, "FLYNN!" we had lots of surprised looks and i almost died laughing.
ReplyDeleteJocee, this is lovely. And you're the coolest (and Texan).
ReplyDeleteThese pictures? Always so real and gritty and beautiful. Your blog is most certainly one of my favourites. xo
ReplyDeleteLove this list!

Guilt free Christmas music! Yes yes yes! I got Josh Groban's CD "Noel" the other day (I LOVE HIM) and was listening to it really loudly. Everybody was telling me to turn it off because it wasn't Christmas. I just told them "merry Christmas" and kept listening. I'm not ashamed. ha!
ReplyDeleteBeing rambly is awesome. I do it all the time! haha XD
happy October to you!
P.S. I love your glasses.
"and i've decided to never give the barista at coffee shops my real name when i order something. because that way, i can imagine another life in another pair of shoes, even if it lasts until the moment i leave the shop."
ReplyDeleteYES.
also I really want a cat too, though my dog would hate me forever if that happened.
Tomorrow (hopefully) I'll have to upload and email it to you! :)
This post was awesome. But then again, what post of yours hasn't been? :)
ReplyDeletePS I awarded you on my blog. :) Visit http://footprintsonthe-moon.blogspot.com/2012/10/from-writer.html to see more.
Wooah, that last picture looks utterly amazing.
ReplyDeleteHmm, great idea. Next time someone I don't know asks for my name, I'll say "It's Samantha. Yup. Totally Samantha." Or "Wait no, it's Beatrice!" Oh, I can imagine the looks on their faces..."NO! I FINALLY MADE UP MY MIND! IT'S...*thinks*...CHARLOTTE!!!" (People think I look like a Charlotte.)
Whoo, October is awesome because it's my favorite month! {And because it's my birthmonth}
Yay for rambling! You should totally get a cat. I used to have a cat. Lots of work, but it's totally worth it. :)
