bless / thank / praise.

everything i am leads back to the God i serve. i just finished and sent in my entry for the fourth annual texas young composers competition. everything, by my standards, just became a little bit less. so here's a mixtape that'll hopefully encourage.
i'm off to nap; i expect to be awoken with nothing less than an extra-large pizza. thank.

and so today i'll get to smell home again.

original photo

i don't know what to say about coming home except that i've never been more excited to do so. words have always failed when it comes to expressing how i really feel, but music has always won. i wanted to mock-up a collection of songs, but this time, not even my feelings are cohesive enough to make something that makes sense. all i have in me is the first song, and the rest is left to be translated by you. (leave me a song [or two] that feels like coming home in your comment. and i'll make a mixtape of it.)

1. this is home - switchfoot.

i promise to not ever leave without taking you with me. and yes, you know who you are. #brbgoingtotacklemyfriends

i apologise for my feelings.

(original photo // typog. by me // quote from ed sheeran's 'kiss me')
whether you have someone to listen to this with or not, i recommend listening with a hot drink on a rainy day, messy bun hastily wrapped atop your head, and a book that makes your cheeks colour and your stomach fly (in a good way, that is). no setlist for you this time, no, i want you to wonder where you're going to go next. whether in the music or with him. see, there i go blushing again... also, i'm sorry for the mushiness around here lately. to me, it's getting old, but i don't think i can help it even if i try. there are tons of songs apart from these that can describe what i'm feeling (whether it only be physical or not) better than i can. i guess you'll have to tolerate it because i don't think i'll be stopping soon. but don't worry, please. i'll be back to my old self, with things to say that are beyond the 'i just like you so much's.' but for now? just listen. and please enjoy...

...and maybe think of him for me.

now is the start || not a year-in-review post.

i would talk about my 2012 in review. i really would. it's just that i can't remember a whole lot from this year (not from each month, anyway), and what i do remember isn't very good. it actually stressed me out, writing a year-in-review post, so i decided not to. one year i will. or maybe next year i'll write down some of the things that happened in the various 12 months of the year and write a proper review then. actually, tomorrow (nope, i lied, i'm posting it new years day) i'll be posting my december for you. i suppose that'll be the closest thing to a year-in-review for me. but for now, here's a mixtape to help you close the chapter called '2012' and get psyched for 2013. and i'm not giving you the setlist, so you'll feel the thrill of not knowing where the music will take you next. so, press play. start now. now is the start, after all.

i don't usually study, but when i do, it's to an epic soundtrack.

“When it's finals week and you've been studying for five hours straight, you need three things to get you through the nigh. The biggest Slurpee you can find, half cherry half Coke. Pajama pants, the kind that have been washed so many times they are tissue-paper thin. And finally, dance breaks.Lots of dance breaks.” -Jenny Han, We'll Always Have Summer
i figured that since it's finals week for all of you who aren't homeschooled/didn't have finals last week like i did, i should make a mixtape to kind of keep your nerves down. while finals really weren't a big deal for me, i know how stressful studying can be, so here's something to keep you relaxed and mellow for about 2 hours. stay studious, my friends.

there are far, far better things ahead than any we left behind.

we all have good days, we all have bad days. the good days are great, they're fantastic; you know, those days where your mom made your favourite breakfast or your boss is in an extra-special good mood, or that homework assignment you were dreading isn't due until next week, etc. things just seem to be going your way. and there are days that are just the opposite. this mixtape is for those days. it's for those days where you feel faulty, like the day couldn't get any worse but then it does, and you want the rapture to happen now or for the world to swallow you up into its core. i didn't have one of those days, i had one of those weekends, and after i hit the publish button for this mixtape, i listened back and i learned to let it all go. so before you crawl into bed with the intentions of never getting back out, just remember: there are far, far better things ahead that any we left behind.

keep breathing.

written yesterday.
i'm not sure what i was expecting for today: friday, the twentieth of july. i woke up to the sun reflecting off of my alarm clock that read seven thirty-nine am, and went downstairs to my creative space. the light was pooling through the blinds, the windows, any outlet you can imagine, and illuminating the downstairs so that artificial lighting wasn't needed. i logged-on to my computer, and in a moment's time, whatever plans i had for the day were changed.

to God, your life is just a breath. our time is different from His, and so He sees things a lot different from the way we do. i've tried to comprehend it, but it is too great a task for me, so i've long since given up.

the thing is: life goes on. it doesn't stop for anyone, it doesn't slow down, and it doesn't add a few extra hours of grace for the ones who just don't have enough time to do anything. but in the midst of this life that's going and going and going, in the busyness of times square and the bustling of the street markets, while newlyweds are making love and teenagers are attending concerts, lives end. and unless it's someone that's really close to us, or a well-known figure, we don't notice it.

this morning, just after midnight, at the premiere of the dark knight rises, twelve peopled stopped breathing. they were there to watch a movie, to not to any harm, and an evil arose and decided to take a perfectly sane place called a movie theatre and turn it into a massacre. all in an instant, homes were broken, hearts were shattered, and voids were created.

when i saw the articles, i tried to avoid them. i didn't want to get depressed and shut myself down into a bubble of negativity. but eventually, i just let it go. watched the news with my family. cried before i went to bed. it hurts my soul to realise that when i take a breath, insignificant as it seems, someone else takes their last.

i tried to say more on this, but the words just won't come. some things are simply too big to fit neatly into a subject, into a conversation. so i will say that everything i have goes out to the victims and their families and friends. i'm praying for all of them. even the shooter.

for now, here's a mixtape. in the midst of trial and tribulation, of angst and inadequacy, we keep calm and we carry on. remember the significance of your breathing.

if i had to tell him i loved him.

bridging the gap.
i was flipping through the music issue of tribeza magazine, and i came across an article by a woman named kristin armstrong. i think this quote says it best: "for as much as i love words, there are simply some subjects that are too big to fit neatly into sentences and paragraphs." you've heard me say it before: it's easier for me to write than to speak. if you met me, you'd find me constantly stumbling over my words and searching for the right things to say, and in the end i'd probably write it down for you so you could understand it. it sounds better in my mind than actually spoken from my mouth. but in some situations, writing can't do me justice.

i once dreamed about a situation in which i was asked how i would tell him i loved him. we were all in a large room with a dining table so long i couldn't see the end of it, and he was there, sitting directly across from me, but he didn't know he was the one. i was asked what words i would use and what actions i would convey to explain myself, but i couldn't bring myself to say or do anything. it was deadly quiet for a long time. finally, i got up, popped an album onto the record player that i had made {who knew my dreams could turn out vintage} and let it play. and this is what i said:

because for the times that i can't speak to save my life or shed a tear for emphasis, music can do it for me. it brings forth emotions that can't be properly worded with the tongue, but only the heart and soul. back in the dream, after the music had ended, several were in tears. even him. he didn't know it was him still, but he knew that i loved someone an awful lot if i wasn't able to speak on my own behalf.

after i awoke, i went to my computer and curated the above playlist; composed, if you will. i have to say, that the music i chose described it so perfectly that even i was crying. by now, though, you're probably thinking i'm a silly schoolgirl with an infatuation and too sappy to be taken seriously. and i probably am. but if i had to tell him i loved him, this is what i would say.
what would you say?

in my sleep

Pinned Image
imagine yourself in a house that looks like that of your grandmother's. only your best friends live inside. imagine a sunroom and an upstairs full of games. the air is somewhat foggy, but adds to the beauty.

would you like some macarons? and suddenly in front of you is a small box. four spheres layered with various fillings are inside. each a different color. any color you like. and so i take a bite. and so do my three best friends, who are there with me. it sinks into our teeth and the sweetness makes our eyelashes flutter.

mmm... we devour them quickly instead of cherishing that every bite that we probably should have. and then we walk downstairs and retreat to the sunroom. you see, i've had macarons before, as a birthday gift from my aunt in california. they were dark and decadent and sprinkled with edible gold. i have a thing for foreign foods. there's something about eating them that makes me feel so exotic. like i'm in a euphoria of flavors and spices.

last night this is what i dreamed of. after the sunroom we went into the adjoining bedroom and sat on the navy-striped comforter looking through parisian perfume bottles and boxes full of charms. probably the best dream i've had in a long time.

what dreams have you been having recently?

the awkward dream post

As you can see in the post title, I had an awkward dream. It came with a title and everything. All I can say is, surround sound will be put to shame after you read this, and there are ALOT of Rachel Berry look-a-likes out there! And, well...maybe I should just tell you.
Attack of the Grotesque Poo {among other things}
My beloved William Moseley and I were playing a game of Monopoly at my house, and at 1am, I apparently fell asleep. I woke up in my bed, expecting it to be morning, but instead it was 10 at night, and he said "Wake up, dolly daydreamer! You've been asleep for nearly a whole day!" I then ran out of my room and went into the bathroom, which had apparently quadrupled in size, and had been turned into a dancing studio.
"I then switched from singing Soprano, to Bass." A tall, random young woman was talking to atleast eight more random young women, and she had long brown hair and a nose that was so memorable that I couldn't help but assume--
"Rachel Berry!" I exclaimed and pointed at her. She looked at me with these weird large eyes and laughed. "No, silly, I'm Mira, the hip-hop ballet instructor. With a hint of trapeze..."
That's...not weird at all... I thought, going down the staircase and finding about 30 more people in the kitchen and in the living room, watching Miss Congeniality and eating goldfish and drinking Kool-Aid. My parents were on a date, so it was just William and I in charge. I proceeded to go back up the stairs, but was interrupted by this rumbling, and fire began to appear on the banister.
"It's okay!" A man who happened to resemble Larry the Cable Guy yelled loudly. "It's only a hologram!"
"What is this?" I screamed when I saw an image of a man in a cowboy hat, with bugged out eyes and flames for a heart. The ceiling seemed to be crumbling above me, and sparks flew everywhere as the carpeted staircase turned to burning wood.
"They're alive. And they're back." A sinister voice started me. "Attack of the Grotesque and Poo. Coming to theaters soon."
"It's a movie?" I asked.
"Yeah," 'Larry' replied. "It puts surround sound to shame, doesn't it?"
"That's disgusting! The banister is slippery, and I feel like I have to climb to get up the stairs, and the downstairs bathroom looks like a wooden outhouse with rusted fingers on the roof!"
"Oh yeah...that'll wear off as soon as the music stops." Larry said.
"I hate horror movies," I muttered to myself as the music faded and the slipperiness ceased. I ran up the stairs back into my room, where Will was sitting with the Monopoly board still out, and money scattered all over my bed. "Umm..."
"You owe me 500 dollars!" He said proudly.
"Lovely, sweetheart." I said softly. "That's...um...amazing. Did you hear about that movie that's coming out in August or something?"
"Attack of the Grotesque and Poo? Yeah. The trailer on the stairs puts surround sound to shame, doesn't it?" He nodded eagerly, then went back to counting his money.
I walked forward until I was standing next to him and knelt down until my eyes met his. "Do you think...that I've gone mad?"
"I don't know. Haven't had a talk with the butterflies yet, have we?"
"I was expecting the same answer from Alice and Wonderland, but whatever!" I then took off running down the stairs, and opened the front door. Walking towards the maple tree in the front yard, I sat down against it when I heard a rustling sound. I looked down to my left, and saw a butterfly sitting on a mushroom.
"Haven't had a talk with the butterflies yet, have we?" It said. The mushroom was red and white, like the Mario Cart games, and the butterfly itself had turquoise wings with a thick black rim.
"Do you think that I've gone mad?" I asked it.
"Well...everyone goes mad if they haven't had a talk with the butterflies."
"Right, I'll see you later." And I walked back inside my house, realizing that I had said the last sentence with a British accent. That's what you get for being with William for so long.
I walked back up the stairs. The preview started again. "UGH!" I hit the banister with my arms.
"Oh...that's not good," Larry the Cable Guy said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"You hit the banister. They're alive now. They're coming."
"What? What do you--" and at that moment the house turned into what was in the preview and blah blah the Grotesque and Poo came to life. The dude in the preview was about 145ft tall and William grabbed me and we hid behind my sisters bedroom door.
"See, Jocelyn? That's what happens when you don't have a talk with the butterflies."
"Okay, I love you, but you're insane!" I screamed, and turned to my left, where the clock struck twelve. And I woke up.
Yes, it was weird, I know. But those are my dreams, for you! I even went up and down the stairs to see if the "Grotesque and Poo" preview was going to happen. Anyway, it didn't, and right now I want to pay tribute to the love of my life who I'm now watching in my most favorite movie of all time: Prince Caspian.
And all y'all girs ("girls") better back off, because he is MINE! MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE!
Okay, so now I'm going to check and see if Collin left me some of the Cheesey D he got earlier. Bye-bye, all you lovely-people-whose-dreams-cannot-possibly-be-as-weird-as-mine! I love you all!

i'm as happy as a clam

(The post title has nothing to do with the main subject of this post, so just bare with me and scroll down) So, since I've let you guys pick what I was going to post about next, I've decided I'm going to go with....*drumroll*......
nzkiwigirl's idea!! which was.....
to write another dream post.
Apparently, those are really funny. So, I'm going to post a dream that I had last night, and it just happened to be about William Moseley. Would you like to know all the details? Well, my darlings, I shan't keep you in the dark any longer *British version* Well, my daahlings, I shan't keep you in the daak any longa. Yes, that was the best written out imitation of a British accent that I could do. ANYWAY..here I go!
Mary was freaking out. She was seriously freaking out. I mean, like so totally freaking out. Not about the fact that Ben Barnes, Anna Popplewell, William Moseley, Skandar Keynes, and Georgie Henley (which equals the main Narnia cast) were showing up at this random place where she and I happened to be at the time, but because of the fact that Ben Barnes, Anna Popplewell, William Moseley, Skandar Keynes, and Georgie Henley (which equals the main Narnia cast) were showing up at this random place where she and I happened to be at the time!!
"Oh my sweet red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing!! The Narnia cast is coming!! They're...I'm going to see him. I'm going to see William Moseley!!" She said those four sentences in such a rush I thought the world was coming to an end.
"Right, well, just be careful, because William and I have children to take care of in Narnia." I looked at her intently.
"Whatever tickles your peach!" Mary sufficed with a roll of her eyes.
"Have you been watching iCarly re-runs lately?"
"I'm obsessed with that show like people are obsessed with Justin Bieber."
"Lovely."
"OHMYGOSH THEY'RE HERE, THEY'RE HERE!!!!!!" Mary ran to the door and opened it to see Ben, Anna, Skandar, William and Georgie standing before her. Their faces were completely blank, as though they had amnesia or something.
"Why are they wearing those school outfits they wore in Prince Caspian?" I asked.
"I don't know." Mary replied, eyeing each one of them down in turn.
"Why does Georgie look like the Lucy from the old Chronicles of Narnia series? That is the weirdest hair-do I've ever seen." I had turned my back to them and finally turn towards them again to see Mary rolling William down the staircase that was to their left. "Mary, what are you doing?!" I said, retrieving William's sandal that had fallen off of his foot.
He stood up, looking around. "Where's my shoe?" he asked, and before I could give it to him, he took another one out of his pocket.
"Um...can I k-keep--" I began.
"No." He snatched the shoe away.
I then realized that his hair was quite long. Not long enough to cause the impulse to snap all the over-sized locks off, but long enough to endure.
"Thank you," he said, a bit shyly, and then out of a *literal* poof of smoke, he disappeared.
I suddenly found myself in my old church building, and began looking around the parking lot for Will, but couldn't find him. Going back inside, I saw our Praise Team practicing a new song with my Godfather. He was playing the keyboard, and wore these thick black sunglasses. I found out later that he was temporarily blinded, but would be better in a few weeks.
Plank. Plunk. Plop. The chords he played didn't match the song at all, and he eventually stepped back, having everyone sing accapella.
And then I woke up. Now, I would like to say, I have the *rare* privilege of my sister being knocked out cold as we speak. I'm going to watch a movie that she's not allowed to watch. What should I watch? Suggestions? I think I'll pop some popcorn, too!
And, I have an announcement:
I GOT MY NEW CAMERA YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a Nikon COOLPIX S3100. Unfortunately my dad's leaving today for a business trip and will be taking the camera with him. But, he'll be back on Saturday or Sunday :D
The camera's purple and takes the AWESOMEST CLOSEUPS EVER!!!
I don't know what I'm going to name her...I was thinking "Sierra Leone", or "Sierra Dior" or "Mia Amour" or "Mi Amora" (I'm obsessed with French things right now :D)
Is it that obvious?
Why, yes. Yes it is.
P.S. Today's my half birthday!! To celebrate I'm going to see the symphony. Happy Sunday, all :D

11:11 - i wished for you

I don't know what it is about dreaming. I mean, it was built into our minds, and we can't even comprehend life without it. So many things have been created just by dreaming, and had they not been created, most of us wouldn't exist.
Sometimes, when I read a book, I find myself creating images that I didn't know I could make. The simple description of a structure or a person can cause vivid pictures come into my mind, and it is because of my own imagination; my own dreams.
dream:
     1.  a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep
     2.  an experience of waking life having the characteristics of a dream: as
          a.  a visionary creation of the imagination (daydream)
        b.  a state of mind marked by abstraction or release from reality (reverie)
        c.  an object seen in a dreamlike state (vision)
    3. something notable for its beauty, excellence, or enjoyable quality <the new car is a dream to operate>
    4. a.  a strongly desired goal or purpose <a dream of becoming president>
       b. something that fully satisfies a wish <a meal that was a gourmet's dream>
imagination:
     1.  the act or power of forming a mental image of something not present to the senses or never before wholly perceived in reality
    2. a. creative ability
       b. ability to confront and deal with a problem (resourcefulness) <use your imagination and get us out of here>
       c.  the thinking or active mind <stories that fired the imagination>
    3. a. a creation of the mind; especially : an idealized or poetic creation
       b.  fanciful or empty assumption
Dreams and imaginations go hand-in-hand in my book. What's one without the other? Without it, how would we be exposed to literature and music, and the very things that make up our everyday life? There would be no Narnia, no Middle Earth, no Wonderland, no Hogwarts, no twilightland (I seriously don't know what it's called, no offense to Twilight fans), no nothing. None of it would exist.
Sometimes I find myself sitting on the sofa, watching television, or maybe I'm cooking, or playing the piano, or watching my sister, and something will come to me. Maybe it's a phrase, maybe it's one word. Maybe it's an entire sentence, or a piano solo, or a full fleshed musical score. It doesn't matter. It just comes out of no where. But that's just it! It didn't just come out of no where. It came from the depths of imagination that are hidden inside of you, that are just dying to be let out. They come in small packages, but then the dam is finally broken and all the water is released. I let my mind follow along its path, and I find myself in different realms, different dimensions, different worlds.
So see? Without dreams and imaginations, many of the things that were accomplished today wouldn't be here. I'm not saying that all the world would be lost, but seriously, dreams and imaginations sure do help.
The great philosopheress Cinderella said:
"a dream is a wish your heart makes"
Well? It's true, isn't it? I have something to leave you with before I go. It's a dream I had.
His eyes were tear stained. The pillow his head rested on was damp, and the coverlets of the bed lay in a heap. The moon was long since risen, and the man inside of it seemed to be crying as well.
"Why did you have to leave?" he asked, "I wanted you; to take care of you, but instead you travel amongst the stars, leaving me behind."
The curtains of his room fluttered in the soft night breeze, and he turned his head to the alarm clock that rested on his nightstand.
"11:11," he thought aloud. Looking into the navy blue night sky, he could've sworn he saw a shooting star.
"11:11," he said again. "I wished for you."
I'm not sure where the dream came from, but their you are.
One last thing:
Whether AM or PM, it's 11:11 somewhere. And at 11:11, I wished for you.

forgive me, i'm going to have to be cliche...

And be all girly and squiggly and squee-y about the dream I had last night. What was it about? Well, as you know, I just saw "Thor" a few days ago, and I went simply fangirly over it!! It was just so good...wow....and...yeah...wow. So what happened? Well, dearheart, I'll tell you:

Thor, Jane, Darcy and I found this AWESOME vintage store in Asgard, and it had ALOT of awesome lace...
We kinda went crazy...("kinda" being the understatement) and afterwards we found this beautiful meadow, and we picked strawberries, and this special fruit that's made only in Asgard...
And Thor ate alot of food....Darcy put it on Facebook...
"This is going on Facebook. Smile!"
And all was said and done, it was time to go, and Thor gave Jane and Darcy hugs...and then he came over to me and gave me a one arm hug, and I put my arms around his neck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. You should probably know that I'd NEVER do that in real life.
And then he asked me to stay....
(pretending that's me...)
Forgive me, I'm going to have to be cliche....
*GASPS/SIGHS, SWOONS/FAINTS, DIES* In all caps. Oh, yes.

i'm sure reality is a lovely place, but i wouldn't want to live there.

(quote by the fantabulous Adam Young)
Reality, meet Imaginations. Imaginations, well, Reality had to go, so let's keep imagining :)
Here I am watching the Royal Wedding, and my imagination is going sky high.
Actually, I attempted to get up at 4am to watch the wedding, and I went downstairs, started to make some tea, then said "I'm DVRing it, I'm going back to bed." So, as my sister's stomping around the room depressed because she wasn't invited, I'm going to tell you some of the things I've been imagining.
1. to be a fairytale princess in a modern day world. That's exactly what Kate Middleton is. She's beautiful and sophisticated, and I think, even though I'm an American, she deserves the best day ever.
2. what my wedding would be like. Of course, it would be with Peter Pevensie/William Moseley (I don't care WHAT anyone else says!!) Peter would be the High King, and I'd be the High Queen, and we'd live happily ever after, kinda like them:
3. to have a wedding cake made of cupcakes. Um, what? I can't help it! Seriously, like I'm NOT going to have cupcakes at my wedding!
4. what I'd say to my special Prince handpicked from God himself. I mean, yeah, I know that traditional vows are...welll...traditional, but what I'm going to say to him will come directly from my heart. Not from Tradition.
5. what I'll wear. They always say the bride has to be a vision in white, but I'm going to be a vision in whatever I want to be. Okay, it's going to be white, but I might add something...
Okay, that's all for now. I'm sorry if you didn't want to read about me rambling on about something that's not going to happen for another 10-20 years. But, I have one last thing to show you:
for me:

  • Westminster Abbey = Cair Paravel
  • Aslan will be doing the wedding
  • And Prince William + Kate Middleton = Peter Pevensie + me.
Whoever God picked for me, I'm going to have my fairytale wedding someday. But instead of being the Princess, I'll be the queen.
Yeah, that's how I want it to be.
