jonathan tropper, this is where i leave you.
i used to not like people very much. i used to not really care. i mean, i cared about the people i was close to, but the others... it didn't matter because i didn't make an effort to become close to them. i'm not sure when i started not caring; i think it was after the hundreds of rejections i'd received. but somewhere around jacque (jackie with substance), that started to change.
you look at this girl and you think thin, pretty, probably has a boyfriend, a nice family in a nice neighbourhood, stuff like that. but you get to know this girl and you think caring, intuitive, compassionate and purposeful. the love for people she has makes you want to love people. to see the best in them. to do things for them. and a little after she impacted me, i started to have a desire to impact others. people i personally know. do things for them. start small, get big. or maybe it'll start big and get bigger. the thing is, we have a shortage of people who like to see the best in others, no matter what. so what if they suck? they're a person too. there are some (not enough) that give off such an aura of joy that you can't help but smile around them. there are some that you are drawn to, and you don't know why, but you're okay with that. and she's one of those people that, if you don't know her, you're missing out on such a kind, kindred spirit. because she will find a way to relate to you, even if she hasn't experienced what you have.

and for me, she made houston better.
so until Christmas, jack-quoi. love and miss you, too.

whatthebleepjocee. she is gorgeous and these images are wonderful. and your words only add to it all. you are an amazing person. there is so much depth to your words. as if you've known the universe longer than it's ever existed, and at the same, like you are only just discovering its vast beauty. i love this and you. the end.
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty!! <3
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to lie, Jocee, I kept checking your blog, wondering if you'd put the pictures of Jacque up yet... and I kept waiting... and then today you did! I got quite excited. :) they're all so cheerful/charming/deep/gorgeous/etc. etc. etc.
ReplyDeletea little off topic: how long've you been into portrait photography? did you teach yourself or have you been tutored? and do you charge or do it for free? I'd truly love to know. <3
xx Leslie
hey, lady! thank you SO much! i'm so glad you were excited about them.
Delete1) ever since i got my camera, i guess. (that was april 2012.) i really don't know when it happened. it just kind of... did.
2) i've never been taught, except for asking how to use a few buttons here and there. mostly, it was just me and google, and the photographers i think are just splendid.
3) i do everything i do for free. i've only been paid once. but i don't mind doing it for free, because it's fun and i enjoy getting to know people. literally, if i find someone i want to shoot, i just ask them. like, "hey, you have a great face. can i take like... 400 pictures of you?" in a less creepy way, of course. i'm not really a photographer, i'm just a person who has a camera and i use it. and the people i shoot are beautiful, inside and out. <3
whoa, thanks for the speedy reply! you've got real quick service over here, ma'am. just might have to recommend you to a few of meh pals... ;)
Deletethat's how I want to be! not a photographer... just a person who has a camera and [uses] it. <3 you're doing a faaaabulous job.
Jocee, I don't know what you did up there but something poked me inside and made me listen and somehow I think I understand just a little bit. You're a sweetie. Here hugs for now and later and whenever you feel like having one: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ReplyDeleteBeautiful and poignant. Don't forget.
those photos are beautiful. i'm inspired by her just hearing about her. she must be beautiful.
ReplyDeletethese pictures make me want to use inadequate adjectives like gorgeous, profound, beautiful, to describe them, but I just know that they make me feel an important and beautiful feeling.
ReplyDeleteHow ADORABLE is she?! Totes. Andddd, these are beautiful.
ReplyDeletejocee, these are fantastic. i love your photos always but these are really special. and that video is just gorgeous.
ReplyDeletei love these photos! and the fourth one has got to be my favorite, so much personality.
ReplyDeleteshe is so pretty. and your photography is simply amazing. <3
ReplyDeletethe way you take pictures is different then everybody else. like their photos try to be real, but yours just are. i don't know. very different then the normal in a good way. you really take pictures of who the person is and that is something i've always longed for in a photograph and it is refreshing to see. you don't try to make them look like someone who they aren't and i guess i'm failing at trying to explain this, but the way you take pictures of people is honest. the person just "is". it isn't a picture "of jacque" it IS jacque and it's a photo ABOUT her.
ReplyDeletethat dimple gif is one of the cutest things there ever will be and i'm convinced of that. fabulous work on these images, jocee.
i understand what you mean. thank you SO much. some time before camp, i just stopped trying and forgot about getting this shot or whatever. i just did what i did. but i wanted to get to know the PEOPLE. you know? it's hard to explain... i know what you're saying and i think you know what i'm saying but... english fails. thankyouthankyouthankyou, though. because this means a lot to me. :) <3
Deletegoodness gracious. these are perfect. i really do love your photography-it's so real and just beautiful.
